In a video, Square Enix presents a new concept for their successful MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV. It is a smartphone app that allows players to gather various materials and resources on the go: FFXIV Online GO
The announcement of a companion app for FFXIV was made over a year ago, as the highly anticipated features requested by players have been postponed multiple times due to various circumstances.
However, in his latest producer letter, Naoki Yoshida confirmed that the app will be released between patches 4.2 and 4.3.

And now it seems the wait is coming to an end.
Play on the go with FFXIV GO
In version 1.0 of the game, gathering materials and resources was an important part of the gameplay of Final Fantasy XIV, but it is a time-consuming task that requires players to be at home on their PC or PS4.
And so the gentlemen and ladies at Square Enix took a cue from Niantic and their game Pokémon GO: they decided to develop a FFXIV GO app for their community.

This app shows players whether and where there are gathering spots in their area where they can mine specific materials.
This also has the advantage that you can meet up with your friends on the go, which according to Square Enix should strengthen the community feeling.

Together with the specially designed “gathering stick,” which can turn the phone into an axe, a pickaxe, or a fishing rod, players can boost the gathering rate of each harvesting spot to 100%.
And there is even gameplay footage of it:
Of course, this is an April Fools’ joke, even though the idea itself doesn’t sound that bad… at least if you leave out the “phone pickaxe.”.
In this sense, happy Easter!
