Recently, Bungie introduced the new Season 9 of Destiny 2 – the Season of Dawn. Resourceful fans have already discovered the Iron Banner armor for the new season on the roadmap. This has led to disappointment among many veterans.
Bungie presents Season 9: Following a teaser trailer for Season 9, Bungie finally presented the Season of Dawn during a stream on the evening of December 4th.
This will start on December 10th and is expected to provide Destiny 2 with new content in phases until March 9th. A new roadmap for Season 9 has also been released, outlining important dates throughout the new season.
What is the new Iron Banner armor about? On this roadmap, fans quickly spotted the upcoming Iron Banner sets that we can expect in Season 9.
Initially, it was just a guess, but Bungie has since officially confirmed that the shown sets are indeed the Iron Banner armor from the Season of Dawn.
And this has disappointed many fans. But why?
What is the problem with this Iron Banner armor? Numerous players feel slighted by the “new” sets – especially those who have been around since the beginning and have diligently collected previous sets.
Because the sets are not that new at all. They are the set that was already available at the start of Destiny 2. Bungie had already communicated earlier that there would be no new, but a returning set in Season 9, yet the disappointment is still significant among some Guardians. This has gone beyond the usual level of recycling.
This set must (or can) be earned by veterans and loyal fans for the 3rd time. This armor was already brought back for Season 7 and could be earned a second time then.
However, it has not yet received the new armor standard of Armor 2.0 and is also not available as an ornament for Iron Banner armors. So, who wants to use the admittedly good-looking armor again or continue to use it (up to date), they will now have to earn it possibly for the 3rd time.
It would have been better to wish for a different Iron Banner set to return. If Bungie is going to recycle so much, they might as well bring back some from Destiny 1.
However, not everyone thinks this return is bad – especially new players who have started with Shadowkeep or the Free-to-Play version Destiny 2: New Light are excited to chase this set. But those who have been diligently playing in the Iron Banner may have a very little incentive, at least armor-wise, to participate in the Iron Banner in Season 9.
Not just recycling in the Iron Banner: But not everything in the Iron Banner is “old stuff”. As it currently looks, there will be at least some new features regarding the weapons. On the roadmap, a Guardian with an Iron Banner-specific bow can be seen. Whether additional new weapons or new cosmetics like ghost shells, sparrows, or ships will also be added remains to be seen.
What do you think about having to earn the “new” Iron Banner armor for the 3rd time? Good for new players or a slap in the face for all long-time players?
