Fans of Monster Hunter are currently being spoiled: On August 7, 2024, developer Capcom released a trailer showcasing the Insect Glaive in Monster Hunter Wilds – a weapon that you want to spend as little time on the ground as possible. The Insect Glaive is just one of 14 weapon types that will be used for monster hunting on Steam and PS5.
What kind of game is this? Monster Hunter Wilds is an action role-playing game from the Japanese developer studio Capcom. What makes this game special is that character progression occurs through your equipment.
By hunting monsters, you gather materials that can be used to craft better weapons and armor. This helps you hunt even bigger and more dangerous monsters, creating a gameplay loop of crafting and action-packed battles.
Monster Hunter Wilds is set to be released in 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series. However, you can already take a brief look at what battles with the Insect Glaive will look like in the video below:
Quick Strikes and High Mobility with the Insect Glaive
What can the Insect Glaive do? It is one of the faster melee weapons in the game and offers high mobility to dodge enemy attacks. You should master this well since blocking is not possible with this weapon.
With the Insect Glaive, you can launch yourself into the air like in pole vaulting to perform powerful jumping attacks at any time. These attacks allow you to latch onto the monster and deal high damage – as long as you don’t get thrown off immediately.
Additionally, you have access to a little helper: a bug that can collect extracts from monsters, granting your hunter various bonuses.
In another video, Capcom already introduced the heavy bowgun on August 6: This weapon comes with its own arsenal of attacks and movements that turn you into a one-man tank. With the heavy bowgun, you won’t be easily swept off your feet by monsters.
