With Patch 8.1, there is a new affix for mythic dungeons in World of Warcraft. This means you need to kill all mobs twice!
To keep mythic dungeons in Battle for Azeroth fresh and interesting, Patch 8.1 Tides of Vengeance introduces a new affix at the start of the new dungeon season, which comes into play from “Mythic+10”.
What are dungeon seasons? Parallel to the PvP seasons of Battle for Azeroth, there are also seasons for mythic dungeons. Each time, there is a special affix that is thematically linked to a specific boss. Currently, this is the affix “Infested,” but with Patch 8.1 Tides of Vengeance it will be “Reaping.”
What does the affix Reaping do? Reaping is linked to Bwonsamdi, the Loa of Death. It causes ghosts to resurrect from all enemies for every 20% of defeated mobs in a dungeon (which are necessary for the progress bar). These enemies appear at the spot where they were defeated and must then actually walk towards the players.
Whether these resurrected foes have their full strength has not been said yet, but it seems unlikely. In any case, one should probably have many group stuns and strong defensive cooldowns ready for these moments.
Reaping is meant to change dungeon runs: The main goal of the developers is to change the way “Mythic+” dungeons are played with Reaping. With Reaping in play, you can no longer take the “well-known” path through a dungeon, as triggering the affix could attract many additional mob groups that join the ghosts and lead to the players’ demise.
Special event for losers: The developers also hinted that something “special” will happen if players do not complete the dungeon within the time limit. What exactly that is has not been explained yet – we will only see that when the Patch 8.1 goes live in mid-December.
Are you looking forward to the new affix? Or do you not feel like learning new strategies for the old dungeons?
