The Witcher from the eponymous game series is not exactly young. His actual age has now finally been officially confirmed.
The story of The Witcher is one where many things lie hidden. Not everything is explained in detail – much is mysterious or mystical, and there are numerous secrets. This even concerns some of the protagonists, as certain details have never been revealed over the decades.
Among these was the age of Geralt, the protagonist, the eponymous “Witcher.” Now his age has been revealed, and it’s clear: he is quite an old chap.
The trailer for the next Witcher game can be found here:
What has been revealed? In the story of The Witcher, Geralt was born in the year 1211. Since the timeline of The Witcher 3 takes place in 1272, Geralt is already 61 years old at that time. Nevertheless, he still wields his swords quite convincingly.
Where does the information come from? The information comes from the latest Witcher novel “Rozdroze krukow” (in German approximately “Crossroads of the Raven”). In it, the age of the protagonist was officially confirmed for the first time and discussed in the Witcher subreddit.
Especially amusing: This creates quite a significant age difference between Geralt and Yennefer. Because good ol’ Yen is already a number of years older – she is 38 years older than Geralt, born in 1173.
Like pretty much all sorceresses in the Witcher universe, she doesn’t show her age. Otherwise, it would have undoubtedly given some spicy scenes in The Witcher 3 a completely different impression, and perhaps some scenes would not be forgotten for other reasons.
That Geralt is already nearing retirement age is likely one of the reasons why The Witcher 4 will no longer primarily focus on him, but rather on Ciri. Even if this decision is associated with completely different discussions and concerns within the community.
