Apex Legends takes place in the world of Titanfall but features no Titans. Could that change in the future? What are the chances of mechs in Apex Legends?
Apex Legends has burst onto the scene and taken the world of battle royale shooters by storm. The excitement for the game from the developers at Respawn is high, but there have also been some critical voices who would have preferred a Titanfall 3. However, just because Apex is not Titanfall doesn’t mean we will never see Titans – at least that’s the hope of some fans.
That’s why there are no Titans in Apex Legends: In an interview with IGN, Executive Producer Drew McCoy spoke about the possibility of controlling Titans in Apex. Allegedly, the developers had countless ideas and tried to incorporate Titans into the game repeatedly. However, this would have led to significant balance issues, which is why they temporarily discarded the idea.
The answer to the balance problem would have been weaker Titans that could better fit into the balance. However, according to McCoy, that wouldn’t have been good, as it would have ruined the “power fantasy of what a Titan should be” – big and powerful. Thus, the developers currently have no plans to introduce Titans in Apex unless they “think it fits and would make the game better.”
Could there be unique maps in Apex with Titans? The developers have not completely ruled out the possibility of Titans. After all, Apex Legends takes place in the world of Titanfall, and it seems a bit odd without its titular mechs. It’s conceivable that Apex Legends could get one (or more) maps where players can only control Titans. This would solve the balance problem because if everyone is overpowered, it would be fair again.
However, there are currently no concrete plans for that. Players must hope that Titans will perhaps find their way into Apex Legends in the future.
