The head of Take-Two, Strauss Zelnick, discusses the Game Pass and other subscription services in an interview. The hottest new game from his company is GTA 6 from Rockstar. Will it also be available on the Game Pass upon release, like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6?
Is GTA 6 coming to the Game Pass? Zelnick mentions in an interview with Gamesindustry.biz regarding Microsoft’s move to buy Activision Blizzard and bring Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 to the Xbox Game Pass:
I think offering a top title at a premium price in a subscription service […] will bring consumers to that subscription service for at least a certain period of time.
But he also states that just because Call of Duty is in the Xbox Game Pass, that won’t apply to GTA 6:
No, it will not influence our decisions. Because our decisions are rational.
So he basically says: It would be a significant success for the Game Pass or other subscription services if GTA 6 comes to the Game Pass. That would give this service an enormous boost, but for Take-Two, such a move would be unreasonable, and therefore they will not put their own flagship title, GTA 6, into the Game Pass or other subscription services.
Take-Two cannot and does not want to afford such experiments
This is the background: Already in 2022, Zelnick rejected such ideas. He sees the problem in that customers are not willing to spend significantly more money just because a premium title like GTA 6 is included in a subscription service.
Take-Two cannot afford to radically change its business model in a way that ultimately results in less money.
Zelnick wants big hits for Take-Two to stay ahead
How does he see the future for his company? In addition to GTA 6, which is clearly the flagship of the company, Take-Two has 15 “immersive core” games in development, along with 5 mobile releases and 3 remasters planned for the upcoming fiscal years 2026 and 2027.
Civilization 7 is also planned for this timeframe.
For Zelnick, it is clear what the company needs to perform better than the other competitors in the market: “Big hits”. And it is believed that Take-Two has everything needed to deliver those hits.
GTA 6 is strongly focused on by the global player base, but so far only a few details about the game are known. How closely and critically GTA 6 is discussed and viewed is evident from discussions about individual features that are creating significant buzz: GTA 6 will be more realistic, allegedly incorporates an annoying feature from Red Dead Redemption 2
