The past year 2020 was anything but quiet, even for the gaming industry. The editorial team of Webedia Gaming expressed their wishes and hopes for the new year in a discussion panel.
This is how 2020 was: The year 2020 was very chaotic and exhausting for many. It has also left its mark on the gaming industry. Right at the beginning of the year, there were delays of major titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Marvel’s Avengers, and New World.
Due to the Corona pandemic, most major gaming fairs and events had to be either completely canceled like E3 or held online like gamescom 2020.
However, this brought a huge influx of new players to gaming, who wanted to occupy themselves during the lockdowns. Publishers reported record revenues and Steam recorded new records in active users.
But what’s next in 2021? The editorial team of Webedia Gaming discussed what might be coming in the new year.
Here is the talk on YouTube:
The talk is also available as a podcast on Spotify:
What can we expect in 2021? In the video, René Heuser, Heiko Klinge (GameStar), Rae Grimm (GamePro) and Leya Jankowski (MeinMMO) talk about their assessments, predictions, and wishes for 2021.
Many major themes and questions are in focus for 2021:
- Will major trade fairs like gamescom or E3 be able to welcome visitors again?
- How will the new consoles perform in 2021? Will there be enough supply, and how are the online services of the respective publishers?
- What about the games that were announced for 2021? Will the MMORPG New World be successful? And will Elden Ring manage a release in 2021?
- Will the working conditions of developers change in 2021?
- And many other questions.
The release lists for 2021 and previews promise major titles for both new consoles and PC, and we can be curious to see if they will deliver.
What are your expectations for the new gaming year? Do you think more people will continue to play? Will the big gaming fairs be canceled again this year? What games are you counting on, and which ones are you looking forward to? Let us know in the comments.
