The SF-MMO WildStar awards prizes for the best video clips. In 30-second spots, fans are to capture what they like best about the new patch.
It is a cost-effective advertising tactic that more and more MMO studios are practicing: They rely on the talent and creativity of fans and want to promote them and utilize their natural urge to showcase and present themselves to a certain extent. This is how Carbine is now practicing it with their MMO WildStar. Fans are expected to create a “film trailer-like” 30-second clip that showcases the coolest of Update 4, the Protostar Initiative. They should then send the clip to the US Facebook page of WildStar, and they can win some great prizes: Among other things, a tech package with a mouse, headset, and keyboard.
Carbine is even a little smarter: They will not decide themselves who wins these prizes, but instead will hold a vote. The video creators should promote their clip and get as many people excited about it as possible.
Well, cost-effective, effective, useful in multiple ways, and letting others do the work: That would surely be in the spirit of Protostar.
Submissions can be made until March 2, you can read more about it on this page. Meanwhile, it has also been announced that the huge update patch notes will no longer be translated into German. They prefer to invest these resources in translation work within the game in the future.
By the way – This is what Carbine’s commercials used to look like.
