WildStar: Will the EU servers make it to Germany?

The science fiction MMORPG WildStar is approaching its release rapidly. An interview with Stephan Frost has raised concerns about the location of the European servers.

In an interview with the online magazine First-Look, published a few days ago, the interviewer asks WildStar’s game designer Stephan Frost how the lag situation looks. After all, in WildStar’s action-based combat system, every delay matters.

Frost apologizes to the European players. At the moment, they are playing on US servers, which results in “that they lag a bit.” The European servers will move to a data center in Frankfurt once the infrastructure is completed. This will take “a couple weeks.”

This statement could cause quite a stir among German and European players. Therefore, we at Mein MMO investigated further.

The interview was published just this week, but as we have researched, it is already a few weeks old. To be sure, Mein MMO investigated and asked the German community manager about the server situation. He reassured us:

The servers for the German EU realms Toria (RP-PvE – DE), Progenitor (PvP – DE) and Ikthia (PvE – DE) are now really located in Germany and not in America. This also applies to the other EU realms.

In recent months, there have been repeated complaints from customers regarding a similar scenario with WildStar’s competitor The Elder Scrolls Online. The European mega-server of TESO is still located in the USA, and the move to a Frankfurt data center has been planned and announced for a long time but has not yet been implemented.

ZeniMax representatives say that the server move will be imminent once the situation has relaxed a bit. However, that is much more complicated than just putting someone on a plane to Frankfurt with a USB stick.
