In the SF-MMO WildStar, there are issues with the translation in the new zones. However, Carbine didn’t wait for players to find out and get frustrated; instead, they spoke up in advance. The president of Carbine makes it clear: “We messed it up.”
On Tuesday, a surprisingly open message came in to us in the editorial office and surely to x other places: The translation for the Content Patch “Transmutation” unfortunately wasn’t finished in time, players of the German version will repeatedly read untranslated gibberish or encounter other errors in the area.
Now, the Executive Producer of Carbine, Jeremy Gaffney, (where “Executive Producer” should also be localized) has spoken out and explained the reasons for the problem. Certain work steps were assigned low priority, but they needed a higher priority to go through the necessary departments in time so that the translation would still work. We’re talking about “strings”, “processes”, and “tools”.
Or as Gaffney says: “In short: We messed it up. And we really would have liked to avoid that with our first major content update. Our goal is to regularly publish new content on a large scale and to ensure that all languages are fully supported at the time of release.”
They mentioned that they still had work steps from the beta that were sensible back then but are no longer relevant today. Gaffney promises to deliver the translation as soon as possible and to ensure that it will be better next time. They are trying out some things here that no one has ever attempted before, for example, regularly delivering huge content patches. That is certainly difficult. As true professionals, one must tackle such tasks.
