When it comes to failed MMORPGs, WildStar is undoubtedly one of the games that fans miss the most. A part of the community now puts its hopes on the GOG platform.
Why GOG? The platform gog.com is part of the “CD Projekt” group and is dedicated to preserving games for eternity. This includes not only new games but also old classics that are often hard to get nowadays or that would not be compatible with current hardware in their original versions.
For this goal, there is the so-called “Preservation Program” on gog.com, which already includes more than 160 game classics. Additionally, you can submit your favorite games for availability on the platform via the Dreamlist of gog.com. One game that ultimately made its way to GOG through this channel is the PlayStation RPG Breath of Fire IV from 2000.

Why WildStar? On November 28, 2018, the servers of the MMORPG from Carbine Studios and NCsoft went offline. Just over 4 years after its release in June 2014. Thus, WildStar belongs to a small group of MMORPGs that many genre fans were immensely excited about and then disappointed.
The disappointment stems from the fact that WildStar, with its challenging raids, engaging combat system, fantastic housing, and quirky humor, was actually far too good to end up on the MMO graveyard after just 4 years.
The MMORPG has many fans who have been hoping for a revival since the shutdown, as evidenced by a petition from 2020 that was signed by more than 10,000 fans. Recently, the application on the Dreamlist of gog.com has already received over 1,360 votes and more than 80 personal memories of WildStar.
What are the chances of a comeback? This is currently being discussed by part of the community on Reddit. Some players doubt that the publisher NCsoft – which holds the rights to WildStar – would enter into such a deal with CD Projekt.
Others counter that NCsoft did something similar just last year. After the official shutdown of the MMORPG City of Heroes in December 2012, fans had to look for illegal alternatives like private servers, where you never know how long they will be able to keep operating.
However, in January 2024, the operators of the “Homecoming” server unexpectedly announced that NCsoft has given them the official blessing for this version of City of Heroes. In April, there was even a big anniversary party there, where developers of the original version of the MMORPG were present.
