Not long now, then the Western MMO Wild West Online will be released. It presents itself as an alternative to “Red Dead Redemption 2” for PC. We tell you what you should know for the launch.
On May 10th it will happen, then you can dive into the adventures of Wild West Online through Steam.

How have opinions changed recently?
Players are divided. Wild West Online faced a lot of criticism during the Early Access phase. Wild West Online seemed extremely unfinished due to missing textures on objects, hardly any customization options for the hero, and many bugs and offered only a few of the features that were promised.
The voices now are still quite divided. Some see Wild West Online as a nice shooter for a quick session that can shorten the wait for Red Dead Redemption 2. Others, however, believe that the title will offer far too little depth.
There have been some improvements compared to the Alpha, but only the release on May 10 will show how much long-term motivation Wild West Online can provide and whether the developers’ grand promises have been kept.

What is Wild West Online at best, what is it at worst?
What will Wild West Online be at best? At best, we expect an online game that can keep players engaged for a time. With a persistent Western world that offers many activities and exciting adventures, and where players determine how it evolves. Given that Red Dead Redemption 2 has (still) not been announced for PC, this could contribute to PC players receiving an interesting online Western game.
What will happen to Wild West Online at worst? The big risk is that Wild West Online appears unfinished, does not offer enough content, and cannot motivate players in the long term. It may also lack polish. In that case, players might prefer to wait for Red Dead Redemption 2, even if this wait can still be a long one for PC players. The suspicion many players had during the Alpha that Wild West Online is “fraud” could also solidify. This would then likely be the end of the game.
What does Mein MMO recommend? We recommend approaching Wild West Online with caution and waiting some time until the game has been thoroughly tested. From the beginning, Wild West Online has tried to position itself as a AAA game like “Red Dead Redemption 2” and capitalize on the similarity. That alone should be a cause for caution. In addition, there were technical weaknesses and shortcomings that caused frustration. Should Wild West Online prove to be a gem and a surprise hit, one can always jump in later.
