Following the World Championship at League of Legends the conflict around the team Fnatic is intensifying. The team’s German bot laner, Elias “Upset” Lipp, had to leave the LoL Worlds 2021 early. One of his teammates blamed Upset’s wife for this. She now says she receives death threats almost every day “because of this boy.”
What was the conflict about?
- For teams in League of Legends, the Worlds at the end of a year is the highlight of a season. The team Fnatic managed to qualify for the LoL Worlds as one of 3 teams from Europe after a crisis.
- However, before the 1st match the German bot laner of the team left. He said he had a family emergency at home. It was very difficult for him to leave the team, but it was unavoidable. Fnatic was then eliminated without any chance already in the main round.
- Subsequently, the French bot laner Adam left team Fnatic. He was the biggest talent in European LoL in 2021. However, the 19-year-old apparently cannot forgive Upset for leaving the team during the Worlds. He claims that Upset only left because his wife felt lonely. Upset denies this.
“Almost every day death threats – completely without reason”
This is what Upset’s wife says now: Upset’s wife is the Twitch streamer and influencer Paulaeal. She has 132,000 followers on Twitch and primarily shows League of Legends. However, she hasn’t streamed there for a while. On Instagram, she has 405,000 followers.
She posted a picture of Adam and Upset on Twitter. She commented:
“Because of this boy, I’m receiving death threats almost every day – completely without reason.”

In the tweet she quoted, one can read that Adam changed his name in the Solo Queue of LoL to “Lonely Wife UwU”.
A reference to the fact that Upset allegedly left the Worlds just because his wife felt lonely.
The Twitch streamer says she works through social media. But she can no longer do anything about it because so much hate is directed at her. She hasn’t done anything wrong – she is being harassed based on pure assumptions.
Such things never happened before. If Adam has a problem, he could discuss it directly with her husband – but Adam simply does not respond to the messages.
What does the LoL pro say about it? Upset says he has tried several times to talk to Adam personally, but he has ignored him. Adam only wants to direct more hate towards Upset’s wife. That’s disgusting. He avoids every conversation (via twitter).
What else is going on? Adam left Fnatic in dispute. He also claimed that Upset not only abandoned the team but also tried to oust him from the team and replace him with a friend of his.
Adam apologizes on Twitch – Couldn’t handle the Worlds
How does Adam react? Adam apologized for his behavior in a Twitch stream on the evening of December 6th. Changing his name to “Lonely Wife UwU” was childish and selfish. That was the stupidest idea of his life. The fans’ reaction made it clear to him.
He says it stemmed from deep frustration. He just couldn’t get over Upset’s departure at the Worlds and therefore had this “stupid reaction,” for which he apologizes.
Adam says he wants to leave the topic behind him now. After the Worlds, he wanted answers to his questions and was angry at Upset.
Adam criticizes Upset for not clarifying the situation after the Worlds and not reaching out to the team to answer the open questions. Only after Adam went public did Upset make contact.
People need to understand how important the Worlds were to Adam. It could be that the 2021 Worlds were the only Worlds he ever qualified for, says Adam. The whole situation totally frustrated him. That’s human and understandable. He felt disrespected and therefore – out of frustration – changed his name.
Childish behavior with serious consequences
What’s behind this: Adam is only 19 years old and evidently extremely ambitious; otherwise, you don’t get named “Rookie of the Year” in LoL. Apparently, he could not handle the fact that the Worlds went so badly for Fnatic after the team had struggled for a year to get there.
In a video from Fnatic one could see how the atmosphere at Fnatic during the Worlds changed from a “school trip with event character” to a trial with tears and despair.
It’s understandable that Adam is deeply affected by the Worlds. However, that Adam consistently accuses Upset of leaving the team just because his wife misses him seems absurd. Both Upset and his wife have clearly stated that this was absolutely not the reason for Upset’s departure. However, they request that their privacy be respected. They do not want to disclose the exact reason.
If Adam changes his name in LoL, it may seem like a childish prank from the outside, but since Adam is so much in focus of the LoL fans and Fnatic is such an important team for many people, it has serious consequences for Upset and his wife.
To an outsider, it sounds absurd that a mega-talent like Adam, who is only 19 years old, believes that his first Worlds could also be his last. But in Adam’s mind, this seems to be a real possibility. Perhaps this also explains why he couldn’t get over the matter.
The girlfriend of Fnatic’s top-laner Bwipo was almost subjected to the same accusations by fans. Bwipo also left Fnatic:
