AMD is currently considered a recommendation for many gaming PCs. However, in 2022, Intel could become the secret tip for many gamers – as a leak reveals new Intel processors in the entry-level segment.
Intel’s i3 processors are aimed at newcomers who do not want to spend much money. However, it has so far been worthwhile to spend around 30 euros more. For 150 euros, you can already get an i5-11400F, which means you get Intel’s current best processor in the mid-range. In the mid-range, AMD predominantly dominates the market with its processors.
This is what has now become known: But this could change if the rumors are true. Because there are reports that a first review of Intel’s latest budget processor has leaked. This is at least reported by the magazine PCGamer (via pcgamer.com), referencing a Chinese article in its report.
If the leak is true, then a fast processor for little money could await us in the entry-level segment.
The entry-level segment could receive a significant performance boost
What is the big surprise? Especially the fact that the new i3-12100 is expected to have hyperthreading may surprise many users. Because hyperthreading has always been reserved for cheaper processors.
Hyperthreading means that a microprocessor works like two logical cores and therefore can process more than one thread simultaneously. This means a significant performance boost. The latest Intel processor is also expected to receive this performance boost.
The i3-12100 is also expected to be a fast entry-level processor:
- The processor is expected to offer 4 cores with 8 threads
- Additionally, there will be 12MB L3 cache, which is mainly responsible for fast data transfer.
- Furthermore, the processor is expected to have a TDP of 60 watts. This means you won’t need a high-end cooler for the processor, but a budget cooler will be completely sufficient.
- Moreover, the processor is expected to include a graphics chip. Intel’s Xe Graphics is enough to play some games at lower resolution.
Over the past months, Intel has not released any budget processors and has mostly been competing with AMD in the mid-range for first place. In the price range between 150 and 200 euros, the Ryzen 5 3600 and the i5 10400F dominate, and you can even get the i5 from Intel for a few euros cheaper.
Intel could offer a strong alternative in the entry-level segment from 2022
With the i3-12100, Intel could now provide a solid alternative for those on the market for whom 170 euros for a processor is still too expensive but who still do not want to compromise on performance.
When is the release of the i3-12100? According to rumors, the i3-12100 is expected to be released in the first quarter of 2022 with budget motherboards. Although the price is not yet known, the previous entry-level processor, the i3-10100, currently costs around 130 euros. We assume that the latest CPU will likely come to market at a similar price.
Spending several hundred euros on a high-end processor is something that few gamers are currently willing to do. How good both high-end CPUs from Intel and AMD are has now been examined by YouTuber “Linus Tech Tips.” You can also find an article about it on MeinMMO:
