If you want to play current games, you need a graphics card with decent performance. The GPU takes on important tasks such as rendering graphics while you are gaming.

AMD is considered a real price-performance tip with RX 6000 graphics cards
What does the current situation look like? By now, both AMD and Nvidia have presented their latest graphics cards. However, these cards are either so expensive that players are up in arms, or they are not yet officially available in stores. And the majority of our users are not willing to pay more than 800 euros for a graphics card in 2022.
Currently, you should focus on the available graphics cards, and there is a powerful selection with the RTX 3000 series and the RX 6000 series. AMD has also lowered the prices for the RX 6000 series to make room for the next generation.
Which graphics cards are particularly worth it right now? Especially in the mid-range and lower high-end sectors, you can save a lot of money with AMD graphics cards. In other words: If you mainly want to play in Full HD (1080p) or are interested in WQHD (1440p), you will currently find the better price-performance ratio with AMD (via geizhals.de):
- If you want to buy a graphics card for Full HD, you pay about 330 euros for the RX 6600 XT. For the comparable RTX 3060, you will incur over 400 euros.
- If you are looking for a WQHD graphics card, you currently pay around 500 euros for the RX 6700 XT. For the comparable GeForce RTX 3070, you pay at least 100 euros more, depending on the model and availability.
- In 4K, similar price differences apply: You currently pay around 750 euros for an RX 6900 XT, while you will pay at least 850 euros for the similar RTX 3080.
A similar picture arises if you want to pay attention to efficiency with the current energy prices: AMD’s 6900 XT is more efficient than the RTX 3090, while Nvidia’s GPUs perform slightly better in the mid-range. In the budget area (RX 6500 XT), AMD offers the more efficient cards. Nvidia slightly outperforms AMD in terms of performance per watt, but AMD wins in terms of performance per euro.
Nvidia offers features that AMD (still) lacks
Where does Nvidia still have the advantage? You should be aware that Nvidia continues to have the upper hand in certain areas when it comes to graphics cards:
- The ray tracing performance of Nvidia graphics cards is better than that of AMD GPUs, even though the Radeon models are slowly but surely narrowing the gap.
- Nvidia’s DLSS technology is currently better than AMD’s FSR technology. With FSR 2.0, AMD has significantly caught up and is expected to narrow the gap further with FSR 3.0.
- Certain software suites, such as Blender, currently require an Nvidia graphics card (via blender.org).
You should keep these differences in mind. If you are not interested in either ray tracing or DLSS and do not need your graphics card for professional rendering, then AMD is currently often the better offer when comparing RTX 3000 and RX 6000 if you want to upgrade.
