After Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was released without a single-player campaign, it looks like single-player fans can look forward to this year once again.
What happened? Recently, Activision Blizzard held its earnings call. This quarterly report for investors traditionally publishes figures and discusses important events and the future of numerous brands and projects.
In this context, there were also first official details about the next Call of Duty, which is set to be released at the end of 2019 and is being developed by Infinity Ward.
What is known about the new Call of Duty? During the earnings call, Activision CEO Rob Kostich said a few words about the upcoming Call of Duty.
Alongside a massive and expandable multiplayer world and fun co-op gameplay, there will also be a completely new campaign.
The CFO of Activision Blizzard, Dennis Durkin, additionally noted that the new franchise installment would appeal to both new players and existing fans. While the game would represent a significant step forward for the franchise, its roots would still lie in one of Call of Duty’s most important stories.
At the same time, he tempered expectations a bit. Because even though Call of Duty will be the most important pillar for 2019, it could very well happen that it does not match Black Ops 4 in terms of figures.
In this regard, Durkin said verbatim: “We have high expectations for the game. But calculatively, we remain conservative and expect lower unit sales in the fourth quarter of 2019 compared to Black Ops 4.”
Therefore, single-player fans can look forward again: With the current franchise installment Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, a spin-off without a single-player campaign was published for the first time in Call of Duty’s history. This led to significant criticism for the title.
Since the series clearly focuses on multiplayer, the single-player campaign also has numerous followers who were disappointed with Black Ops 4 and in some cases even refrained from purchasing it for this reason. Particularly, the story from the “Modern Warfare” titles is regarded as very popular among fans.
