Ubisoft’s medieval MMO For Honor gets a limited-time event. With “Shadows of the Hitokiri” comes a new game mode and gruesome horror elements into play. However, fans were hoping for something different and are now disappointed.
What is the new event for For Honor? From June 10 to 27, 2019, there is a new event in For Honor. It’s called “Shadows of the Hitokiri” and revolves around the new, creepy samurai class, which resembles the dark bosses from the game Sekiro.
This is the new mode: While the event is running, you can play a unique new game mode called Soul Harvest. In this mode, the warring factions clash in the abandoned village ruin Kaidan. There, the dark Hitokiri warrior Sakura once committed a massacre, and ever since, the souls of the slain haunt the place.
In Soul Harvest, it’s all about who collects the most souls by killing soldiers. Each hero has their own supply of souls. This counts towards the team’s total score, and you can lose your souls if you are killed by another player.
You also lose your souls when you respawn. So your teammates need to be careful to prevent your team from getting significantly set back and revived.

The new mode relies on teamwork. Once you have collected 1,000 souls, the game is won.
Fans don’t actually want an event
Here’s how the new content is received by players: Recently, For Honor noticeably regained its popularity after a long drought phase. However, the new event causes dissatisfaction among fans. After the hype leading up to E3 2019, they were clearly expecting a new addon like the introduction of the Chinese faction.

But instead, there was “only” the event for the already existing Hitokiri, which is also only limited in time. On Reddit, people are expressing their frustration:
- “It’s extremely underwhelming!”
- “I am really disappointed now! I waited for this day and was really looking forward to the new content, but noooo!”
- “Yes, they really missed a huge opportunity to build hype. What were they thinking?”
- “That was a mistake to make such a big announcement for such little content.”
