The action-packed arena brawler/battle royale hybrid Battlerite is in crisis. Players are dropping off, and the development is becoming less worthwhile for Studio Stunlock.
What is the problem with Battlerite? Battlerite and the battle royale standalone are currently facing a serious crisis. The game is losing players. On Steam, there was an average of only 486 players online in June 2019. The peak was 905 players. This is a far cry from numbers like in March 2018, where there were over 6,000 players on Steam on average.
Why are there so few players left? According to the developers at Stunlock, Battlerite in itself is well-received. However, the game lacks the appeal to keep players engaged for longer than a short period.
People play it quickly, but hardly anyone stays for long. From the great success to the free-to-play launch, not much seems to remain.
Consequently, revenues are also declining further, and development is becoming less worthwhile.
Battlerite is no longer the main project of the developers
What will happen to Battlerite? With heavy hearts, the developers announced that under these circumstances, they can no longer operate Battlerite as the main project of the studio. It’s simply not worthwhile anymore, as Battlerite brings in too little money.
Therefore, they will also not complete the long-in-development tournament system. This is something Stunlock deeply regrets.
What’s still coming to Battlerite: The upcoming Season 3 of Battlerite will still be released as planned on July 10, 2019. It will include a reduction in the costs of heroes and introduce a public custom lobby. However, whether there will still be a season after the third one is up in the air and seems rather unlikely at this point.
What are the developers doing? They want to do what they can for Battlerite but also turn to a new project. This will incorporate numerous experiences from Battlerite, both positive and negative. They will keep the players informed when there is more to say.
The decline of Battlerite is very unfortunate; the game was always a favorite among critics. Here at MeinMMO, it was received positively as well.
