If you commit crimes in the space MMO Star Citizen, there are consequences. You could even end up in prison. That seems to be quite exciting.
When do you go to prison? According to Cloud Imperium Games, there is a long list of crimes that can send you to prison. These include murder, for example. Like in real life, however, you have to be caught and convicted first. So it is entirely possible that you may murder someone and get away with it.

Time for Lockup!
What can you expect in prison? If you end up in prison, you wake up in your cell. All of your equipment is gone for the time being. The virtual prison of Star Citizen consists of your cell and the cell block. There, you will be staying with 49 other criminals.
Of course, you won’t just wander around aimlessly. Hard work will be done in prison. Therefore, you take the elevator down to the mines every day. There, you will mine ore. After that, you will return to your cell.
There are also vending machines where you can purchase items like medipacks or food. You don’t work in the mine for free; instead, you earn merits that serve as currency.
Is it possible to escape? Yes. There is a secret escape route through a cave. If you find it, you must try to follow it to the exit. However, you won’t have served your sentence or been rehabilitated by doing so. On the contrary, they will once again hunt you down, and if you are caught, you will have to spend even longer in prison next time.
Additionally, an escape must be well planned. You will need some equipment for it, like oxygen syringes, which you must obtain first. An escape could then become a very exciting experience.
A Game within a Game
Can you shorten your time in prison? If you do really good work and save your earned merits, it is possible to buy your freedom with them.
What happens if you misbehave? If you maybe start a fight or try to escape openly, it could have fatal consequences. Because in the middle of the cell block, there is an automated cannon that takes quick action against anyone who misbehaves.
What is special about the prison? The prison in Star Citizen is essentially outside of the game. It is a kind of game within a game that takes place independently of the rest of the space MMO.
When will the prisons be introduced? The Alpha of Star Citizen will introduce the virtual prison with version 3.9. This version is expected to be released at the end of March. Those who are already playing the space MMO can then try out what life is like in prison.
