In Fortnite , the developers have announced the rules for the World Cup. The Fortnite World Championship has a prize pool of 30 million US dollars. However, only 6 games will determine who goes home with 3 million $ or who has to settle for a measly 50,000$. This means: Every second will matter.
This is the situation: The World Cup is coming up in a month. For 10 weeks, the best players in the world have struggled through a tough qualification to get a ticket for the mega event in New York.
The event will take place from July 26th to 28th. Now the rules and prize money are known (via cdnunrealeninge). They are already being discussed in the community.

This is how it will be played: There are only 6 games in each discipline:
- 6 games in the Solo World Championship in Fortnite
- 6 games in the Duo World Championships
No extensions are planned if teams are tied.
Who will win the tournament? It is about collecting as many points as possible in the 6 matches:
- 10 points for the win
- 7 points for places 2-5
- 5 points for positions 6 to 15 (Duos 6-10)
- 3 points for positions 16 to 25 (Duos 11-15)
- 1 point per kill
In the end, whoever has the most points wins. In case of a tie, the number of wins is considered. If it’s still tied, the team with the most kills wins. If there is still a tie, the average placement in the 6 games will decide. And as a last resort, a coin toss will be used.

This means the point allocation: No special rewards are planned for the team that achieves the most kills per round. This likely means that defensive play will be preferred. It’s referred to as “Turtling.”
Many players will reach the endgame because they tend to avoid conflicts. Therefore, it’s extremely important that players can build and edit well in close quarters.
Fortnite World Championship creates 8 millionaires
How much money is at stake?
There is a total of 30 million $. Eight individual payouts exceed one million $ and make the winner an instant dollar millionaire.
The Solo winner receives 3 million $ for himself.
The Duo also receives 3 million, but they must split the money.
Even placing 4th in Solo still makes you a millionaire, with a payout of 1,050,000$. The 4th Duo wins 1.5 million $, so “only 750,000$” per person.
The minimum amount that each participant receives is 50,000$ (Solo) and 100,000$ (Duo). The “consolation prize” category starts at 21st place in Solo and 11th place in Duo. So every participant is guaranteed money.
How is this being discussed? In general, pros consider 6 games to be quite few. This will be a stressful experience.
Because in such a setup, every small mistake can make the difference between going home with 3 million $ or with the 50,000$ prize money.
With 6 games, the margin for error is tiny.
