The Motorola Razr+ (or Motorola Razr 40 Ultra) has recently hit the market. Most testers are enthusiastic about the new device. Many say it is the first affordable “Foldable”.
Folding phones are gaining popularity, even though they were long considered a very specialized niche. Manufacturers can charge quite a bit for this niche: A Foldable from Samsung costs around 1,500 euros, while the smaller Flip from Samsung still costs at least 1,100 euros.
With the Razr+, Motorola has now released another device. A bit confusing: While the device is marketed as Razr+ in the US, you can buy it in Germany as Motorola Razr 40 Ultra. The price ranges from 1,000 to 1,100 euros.
And the first tests are very positive. But why are so many enthusiastic about the new phone? Such “foldable phones” are not a novelty. However, Motorola seems to hit the nerve of many people with its model.
Much praise for form and design, criticism of the camera
What are many excited about? Most of the praise goes to Motorola for the good form and design of its new smartphone. The device is small and compact, despite its display size of 6.9 inches. The editorial team of Androidpolice explains that the matte glass on the back feels simply great. The colleagues from zdnet also state that the design seems well thought out.
The performance of the model is entirely sufficient for everyday use, and the form of the Motorola Razr+ feels very good in hand.
Overall, most colleagues around the world have a very positive outlook when reporting on the new phone:
- The colleagues from nextpit write that it is the best Foldable currently on the market, “at least until the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is released on July 26.” And that for a price of around 1,000 euros.
- The editorial team of zdnet agrees and states that it is the “best Foldable currently” available on the market.
- The editor from 9to5google.com also explains that the “king” of flip phones has been reborn.
Is there also criticism? Besides the great praise, there is a debate about the quality of the camera. Some find the photos good, while others criticize the lack of a telephoto camera and poor night shots. The photos are always usable, but one should not expect too much.
The battery life is sufficient for a day, but overall the battery is too small. Others criticize that Motorola does not use the latest hardware anymore.
In 2020, Motorola’s folding phone had no chance with testers
Overall, tests show that Motorola has continuously improved the idea of a folding phone. A few years ago, things did not look good for Motorola: The Razr 5G (2020) failed many international tests and had no chance against the stronger competition from Samsung (via spiegel.de):
- The Razr 5G was too bulky
- The handling was too complicated
- The battery was too weak
- And a much too high price (1,500 euros) also spoiled the overall picture.
But with the new Razr+ or Motorola Razr 40 Ultra, many mistakes and problems have been solved, and the testers’ nerve has been struck.
This is also reflected in the positive reactions: The phone is recommended if you are looking for a slim phone for your pocket but do not want to miss out on a large display.
More about phones: You don’t necessarily have to spend 1,100 euros to get a good phone. MyMMO editor Benedikt Schlotmann tested a phone for under 100 euros and explains what can be done with it:
