Many MMORPG fans are looking forward to Camelot Unchained, Chronicles of Elyria, and Crowfall, and all games were significantly presented and advertised years ago. After all, they were seeking the support of fans for their respective crowdfunding campaigns.
But in recent years and months, we hear less and less about the three games outside of their closest fan circles. What is going on?

What is Camelot Unchained? The MMORPG by Mark Jacobs aims to be a spiritual successor to Dark Age of Camelot. PvP battles between three factions are at the forefront. PvE plays a minor role.

What is the status of the game? The development of Camelot Unchained is progressing slowly but steadily. The developers want to do it right, which is why they are not hesitant to swap out complete game systems. This has happened with the skill system, for example.
The MMORPG is currently in the beta phase, during which the fundamental systems and the sieges are being tested. It is important that as many players as possible can participate in the battles without the performance dropping.
Recently, the new skill system and an updated UI were presented. Work on the MMORPG is progressing – just a bit slower than expected.
Funding Relieves Pressure
How was the game presented back then? Camelot Unchained was presented shortly before Christmas 2012 by Mark Jacobs with a teaser as a spiritual successor to the cult MMORPG Dark Age of Camelot. The response was very positive. Thus, the Kickstarter campaign in April 2013 was successful.
At that time, there was a lot of buzz about the game. Not only the concept was presented, but also the classes were gradually introduced. The developers regularly reported from internal tests, discussed the individual systems, and interacted a lot with the community. Videos of massive battles were shown.
All of that made people eager to finally be able to play themselves. Since the start of the beta, this has changed somewhat.
Why do we hear so little about the game currently? The developers are in the optimization phase and are working through the feedback from beta testers.
Basically, they are preparing for the upcoming testing phases and the release of the MMORPG.
For Camelot Unchained, it is no longer as important, as it was at the beginning, to stir up publicity – since funding has been secured through external financing since January 2018. Back then, the MMORPG received a funding boost of $7.5 million.
How safe is a release? A release is actually considered very safe. Camelot Unchained has not only been financed through a crowdfunding campaign but has also received additional funds from investors. Designer Mark Jacobs is also contributing privately.
When will the game be released? It is unlikely that the MMORPG will be released in 2019. A release sometime in 2020 seems more realistic.
What will Camelot Unchained be at best? Ideally, we expect an exciting PvP MMORPG in the style of Dark Age of Camelot, where we can engage in massive battles. This would provide fans of DAoC with a new, modern home.
