Destiny 2 is a loot shooter. But where to put all the weapons, armor, and items? For loot hoarders, the vault is once again too small. The existing space issues could get even bigger.
Why is the vault currently bursting at the seams? In Destiny 2, shooting is fun and diverse. The reason for this is the many different pieces of equipment and weapons. Since you can’t carry everything at once, the lion’s share of items has been in the vault for more than 5 years.
The vault currently holds 500 items. For many collectors, this is simply not enough.

Of course, this problem does not affect every Guardian; there are indeed players who manage their space well, but the topic is currently on the minds of many players in Destiny 2.
Before each new season, expansion, and event, loot hoarders clear out the vault. Deciding which item to delete irreversibly is often not easy.
With the last major expansion, calls for more space were also loud. It was said on Reddit: “Will vault space be increased with Shadowkeep? We now know the answer: No! The last upgrade of the vault was over a year ago.
Currently, it seems that the space problem will only get bigger in the future. At least that is what Forbes suspects. Two factors are identified as the reason:
- Armor 2.0
- The season model
This leads to space problems for the Guardians
That’s why Armor 2.0 is a space problem: With a new armor system, Destiny players should finally be able to play and look the way they wanted.
However, the new system has also led to justified criticism. Currently, the grind for the ideal armor is harder and more tedious than ever before. This is mainly due to two things:
- Element affinity for armor
- Random distribution of stats
This means for the loot hoarders: At least 3 variants of each relevant armor piece must be ready in the vault. This also applies to exotics, which do not make any exceptions for elemental affiliations.
Players tell themselves:
- Roll 1 is for PVP
- Roll 2 is ideal for clearing adds in PvE
- Roll 3 could become extremely strong with a later update.
Also, the collection does not provide much for the “Armor 2.0” armors. You cannot determine which element your one-eyed mask has or dictate the stats on the starfire protocol.
The collection therefore cannot support or replace the vault in all respects. In the future, Destiny 2 will need to find another way to solve the space problems.
Because simply increasing the space in the vault cannot be a long-term solution. Players want to be entertained with fresh loot. That means even more stylish armor and strong weapon rolls. The question is again: where to put them?

The fact that I now carry more armor with me than ever… Sometimes one for each element, then 1-2 exotics and one from another season for Hive, Taken, or Fallen Armaments. Not to mention the effort to get each good roll…

If you play all 3 classes, as regular players do, the space problem in Destiny 2 will only get worse. The vault is piled up with not only exotics and “Armor 2.0” armors but also raid sets and Gambit Prime sets.
That’s why the season model is a space problem: Every three months, players can expect a new thematic season. The seasons bring new story missions, updates, exotics, and loot that matches the season’s theme.
That’s nice, but it has a catch: The seasons and their contents have an expiration date. Once a season is over, the items disappear and are currently unreachable.
This puts some players under pressure. After all, you don’t want to miss the potential overweapon or lament a cool item later.
Although Bungie has announced that popular items might celebrate their return someday, no one really knows about that right now. Bungie emphasized that they want to create a sense of “I was there.”
The collection should solve the space problem
The space problems have not just existed recently. They are more a general problem for Guardians. Even back in the “Destiny 1” days, the vault was not sufficient.
How should the collection help? With its introduction of the collection, Forsaken wanted to solve or at least alleviate the space problem of Guardians. With a kind of collection, the heavily used vault should be relieved.
Once unlocked items should be able to be safely deleted and “drawn” again for a fee. This works so far for cosmetic items and exotic weapons.
However, weapons with random rolls cannot be drawn again. The hunt for the various combinations of perks and stats is an important part of Destiny.
