Will there be more Vault Hunters in Borderlands 3 ? Randy Pitchford from Gearbox has now indirectly answered the question.
The Borderlands series is known for its strong DLCs that either expand the game with large campaigns or new Vault Hunters. However, it seems there will be no new ones in Borderlands 3. At least, Randy Pitchford’s words sound as if new Vault Hunters are excluded for the time being.
Information about the already announced DLCs can be found here.
What was said? On Twitter, Randy Pitchford responded to the question of whether there will be new Vault Hunters in Borderlands 3 via DLCs. Pitchford has (for now) denied this:
“We are currently focusing on the base game, but I believe it would be better for us to expand what the existing Vault Hunters can do and how their future growth can be made interesting, rather than creating new ones that start from scratch. Our data seems to support that.”
It is not entirely clear which data Pitchford is referring to. However, it can be assumed that he is referring to internal data suggesting that players prefer to stick with a character rather than start something new.
In another tweet, he added that “his analysis of the data indicated that a significant majority of players benefit when the existing characters are expanded.”
What the new classes in Borderlands 3 can do, you can read here.
Earlier games had DLC Vault Hunters: In Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, in addition to the story DLCs, there were also other DLCs that introduced completely new characters into the game. The Mechromancer Gaige was particularly popular back then. She could summon her own combat bot, which could be customized in various ways through skills.
Cortyn says: I am somewhat torn. On one hand, I appreciate that Borderlands 3 is taking care of the existing characters and wants to keep them interesting in the long term. On the other hand, I was one of those individuals who enjoyed creating a completely new character to experience the game again with a different playstyle. I find it rather disappointing that new Vault Hunters are almost ruled out.
But how do you see it? Is it good that there will be no Vault Hunter DLCs? Or do you believe that Gearbox and 2K will change their minds, because something will be missing from the games otherwise?
