Players have found a quirky NPC in Fallout 76. He follows them and then insults them. After that, he hurries off. This leads to many strange encounters and confused players.
Why are people insulted? Apparently, this is a new feature in Fallout 76, which seems to have found its way into the game alongside the first updates of Wild Appalachia. There are now more insults in the game.
However, this does not refer to particularly nasty players. It is about a (non-human) NPC that follows you and insults you.
The NPC is a Protectron named “Insult Bot.” When he encounters you in a seemingly random meeting, he prompts you with a brief “Hey, wait a minute” to talk to him.
If he gets close enough to you, he then says: “Target acquired” or “Insult being generated” and starts insulting you. When he finishes, you receive a slip in your inventory stating: “You have been insulted!”
These are the insults the Bot spits out: The Insult Bot has some rather shallow, others quite harsh sayings in store. We have collected some insults from videos and reddit threads for you:
- “Hey, human. You have no friends because all your friends and loved ones died in a fiery explosion 35 years ago. Hahahaha. Contact local incineration unit. Peace out, loser.”
- “Vault dwellers from the 2070s are calling. They want their Vault suit back.”
- “Knock knock. Who’s there? An organic life form with a limited lifespan. Gotcha!”
- “Do you want to make Appalachia a better place? Start by throwing an atomic bomb at Vault 76.”
- “I heard you were drunk and missed everyone leaving Vault 76. Too bad that didn’t happen when you were supposed to go into the Vault. See you later, loser.”
The bot occasionally seems to have issues loading his insults and gets stuck in a loop, which is why some players encounter him but do not get insulted.
This is how players react: The Insult Bot seems to be a new star for many players. They enjoy the dark humor and laugh at the insults.
Some players also say they initially felt offended or even publish rather ironically written threads asking for support. Ultimately, however, they find the idea cool.
