With a new tactic, trolls are attacking unsuspecting players in League of Legends and giving them a timeout. Don’t fall for it, or you will get banned in LoL!
Now the trolls in League of Legends no longer just want to ruin your games, but want to give innocent players hefty penalties.
They do this with a trick that is supposed to get you at least a 14-day ban. Repeat offenses can lead to even harsher penalties, up to a permanent ban.
Trolls Want Your Curse Words!
It may sound a bit absurd when we tell you “Watch out! They want you to use curse words.” But that is exactly the new scheme of the trolls in LoL.
On Reddit and in the LoL forums, many players report that they were suddenly hit by the ban hammer. The reason for this was other players who tricked them. They wanted to hear curse words.
The trolls exploit the ban tool of League of Legends to their advantage. They tell other players that they should either say a certain word or the trolls will sabotage the game.
The penalty for “hate speech” in LoL is a ban of at least 14 days. More frequent offenses can also lead to a permanent exclusion.
How do they “trick” you?
On Reddit, user “Eedat” warns about how the trolls operate. He writes that the tactics range from “what’s that English curse word you say against gays?” to threats like “If you don’t say that word, I will feed.”.
If players then use one of the “forbidden words” that are on Riot’s blacklist, they are reported by the troll after the game. Through the instant review system, League of Legends then recognizes what you wrote in the lobby chat and in the game, and sees that you violated the rules. And just like that, there’s a timeout.
Example from the Forum – “Neck yourself”
In the LoL forum, a player describes how he fell for this trick. He was playing a ranked match, and a teammate explained, “My name is Neck Yourself. If you say my name four times during a game, I promise I won’t feed.”.
Of course, the player didn’t want a feeder on his team but wanted to win his ranked game. So he wrote “neck yourself” four times (which means something like “hang yourself”) and received a 14-day ban after the game. He apparently did not know that “neck yourself” is among the forbidden words or said it anyway, not wanting to lose.
In the forum, Riot employee Tantram reviewed the case and unbanned the player. He says he now spends his weekend holding the trolls accountable for it. Anyone who has already fallen for this trick should contact Riot Games’ support with a ticket. They are apparently aware of the problem.
