For exactly one year, you can catch Kaumalat in Pokémon GO. However, the popular monster has become quite rare – to this day, it is still extremely rare.
This is Kaumalat: Kaumalat is a Dragon and Ground-type Pokémon introduced in the fourth Pokémon generation. It is already quite popular in the main games, likely due to its evolution: the Dragon Knackrack is quite powerful – even in Pokémon GO.
Knackrack is among the best Dragon attackers. It generally has an impressive attack value and can achieve very high CP. Additionally, it can endure battles quite well. You wouldn’t want to face a Knackrack as an opponent. However, you’d like to have it on your team – but that’s not easy.

Trainer shows how rare Kaumalat is
So rare is Kaumalat: Shortly after release, it became clear that Kaumalat would not be easy to obtain. An analysis from last July showed that it can hatch from 10 km eggs, but this almost never happens. Also, it is extremely difficult to catch a Kaumalat in the wild.
On the occasion of the Pokémon GO anniversary of Kaumalat, a trainer on reddit published his personal numbers in the search for Kaumalat. According to Trainer “killerofheroes”, the player has caught a total of
- 35,839 different Pokémon,
- 629 eggs hatched
- and traveled 1,453 kilometers
His personal Kaumalat result: Exactly one of the monsters went into his hands.
This also makes it difficult to evolve the small dragon into a dangerous Knackrack. After all, you can’t easily get candies if you don’t catch more specimens. That’s why it’s highly beneficial to have as a buddy.
Players longed for a Community Day with Kaumalat, but this hope received a small setback with the introduction of Shiny Kaumalat in December 2019.
This is what the community says: The comments under the post by “killerofheroes” are not surprising. Most trainers have had the same experience with the rare Kaumalat. And when they had caught more than one, it was only a few. Few Pokémon seem to be able to match these rarity values.
Only exceptions like Kapuno or Milza are considered similarly rare: “Honestly, I didn’t know that Milza was even available,” explains a user (via reddit) and also has a suggestion on how more players could get such rare monsters like Milza or Kaumalat: “These pseudo-legendary monsters should rotate in the battle league instead of Tanhel. Kapuno is in there, but the others should be mixed in too.”
This way, more trainers could enjoy such strong Pokémon. Because those who have been able to catch a Kaumalat so far have definitely had a lot of luck!
A Community Day would also be a good opportunity to secure a Kaumalat. However, at least the next two will feature other Pokémon prominently. And which ones that will be, you can choose.
