In addition to the base version, there is the Ultimate Edition and the “Cross-Gen Bundle” for PS5 and Xbox Series X. There are also bonuses for pre-orders. If you spend a bit more money to buy Call of Duty: Vanguard, you will benefit from exclusive bonuses of the different versions. The timing of your purchase also plays a role as the bonuses for pre-orders are limited.

Pre-order Bonuses for Digital Editions
What bonuses do pre-orderers receive? If you purchase a digital copy of Vanguard, you will receive the following bonuses regardless of which edition you acquire:
- Night Raid Mastercraft skins for the PPSh
- Operator Arthur Kingsley
- Ultra skin “Ghost of War”
- Access to preload
- Frontline Weapon Pack for Vanguard
The “Night Raid” skin, the Ultra skin “Ghost of War,” and Operator Kingsley are part of Cold War and Warzone. Therefore, these contents are already usable. The Frontline pack, however, is exclusive to Vanguard and not yet available.
The preload starts for consoles on October 29th and on PC on November 2nd. You can find all the info about the preload and details about the release time here.
How much time do I have left for a pre-order? You will receive the “Night Raid” skin, the Ultra skin “Ghost of War,” and Operator Kingsley only if you pre-order by November 2nd. However, there is no exact time mentioned here yet. For the preload or the Frontline pack, there is no such limitation – as long as you purchase before the release, you will receive the bonuses.

CoD Vanguard: Digital Standard Edition – Old Consoles & PC
What is included in the Standard Edition? Here you only get the game along with the pre-order bonuses. On PC, you don’t need to consider anything, but console players should examine the version closely.
The Standard Edition only offers you the version for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Vanguard will run on the new consoles, but only backwards compatible. The improvements in graphics and performance of the versions for PS5 and Xbox Series. Call of Duty recommends the Cross-Gen Bundle for the new consoles.
Can I upgrade to the new consoles later? For a few euros, you can later purchase the upgraded next-gen version. For the predecessor Black Ops Cold War, it was 5 euros. The price may rise to 10 euros this year.

CoD Vanguard: Digital Cross-Gen Bundle
What is included in the “Cross-Gen Bundle” edition? This package is only available for console players and is essentially the Standard Edition with the versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
You will therefore receive the game for both the old consoles and the new consoles, along with the aforementioned pre-order bonuses. If you want to play Vanguard on PS5 and Xbox Series, then go for the Cross-Gen Bundle. As a small bonus, you also get tokens for 5 hours of double weapon XP with the bundle.
What is the price of the Cross-Gen Bundle? Unlike last year, you have to add 10 euros with Vanguard:

CoD Vanguard: Digital Ultimate Edition
What is included in the Ultimate Edition? The largest package is available for consoles and PC. With the Ultimate Edition, you get all the previously mentioned benefits from the pre-orders and the versions for the next-gen consoles, but also a package with additional in-game content:
- The game Call of Duty: Vanguard
- Upgrade to next-gen version
- “Task Force One” package with 3 operator skins and 3 weapon blueprints with tracer ammunition
- 5 hours of double weapon XP
- 5 hours of double account XP
- “Battle Pass” bundle with 20 level jumps for Season 1
What is the price of the Ultimate Edition? Here, too, players on consoles need to dig a little deeper:

CoD Vanguard: Standard Edition on Disc – Caution on Xbox One
What is included in the Standard Edition on Disc? Vanguard also offers versions on disc for consoles – PC players only have the digital download.
The only bonus for purchasing the disc version early is early access to the beta. However, that is already over, meaning you basically just get the game. The disc version does not count as a pre-order.
Players on Xbox One should be careful when making a purchase. If you plan to upgrade to Series X|S in the near future, it’s better to opt for the digital version – the disc version cannot be upgraded.
It is different with PlayStation: here you can still upgrade to the PS5 version later in the PS Store, but you must always use the disc when starting the game on PS5. However, the PS5 version cannot be played on PS4.
The next-gen versions for PS5 and Xbox Series do not work on the old consoles PS4 and Xbox One.
What is the price of the Standard Edition on Disc? Compared to the digital standard version, you will have to pay a bit more:

Which version is worth it for whom?
Who should go for the digital Standard Version? If you only play on the old consoles PS4 and Xbox One or on PC and have little interest in additional in-game items, then the Standard Version is your choice.
By pre-ordering, you can secure some bonuses. If you are sure that you want to get in at release, then make your move before November 2nd.
Who should go for the digital “Cross-Gen Bundle”? This bundle is intended for all players on the new consoles. You receive few bonuses but get the graphic and performance update for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
If you are more of a casual Call of Duty player, then opt for the disc version on the new consoles. You get the game for the same price and have the option to sell the game later.
Who should go for the digital Ultimate Edition? Whether the Ultimate Edition is worth it for you is hard to assess. We will list the approximate prices for the bonuses of the console editions in the package:
- The game CoD: Vanguard: approx. 70 €
- “Battle Pass” bundle: approx. 20 €
- 3 Operators + Weapons: approx. 25 €
- Next-Gen Upgrade: approx. 10 €

Compared to the price of the Ultimate Edition for nearly 110 € you save about 20 €. For PC you have to deduct 10 € per version, which also brings you to 20 €.
If the bonuses from the package do not appeal to you, save the 40 € for the Ultimate Edition and check the shop as soon as Vanguard is online.
If you plan to buy the Battle Pass anyway and are on a next-gen console, you can get the bonuses for about 20 € additional cost – in this case, the Ultimate Edition might also be worth it for you.
Who should opt for the disc version? If you are considering selling Vanguard at a later date, get the disc version. For a small premium, you receive a CD version and thus the option to part with Vanguard later.
The latest generation of Call of Duty brings fresh gameplay elements, a ton of new weapons, and a familiar setting. The Battle Royale Warzone also benefits from the CoD release in 2021. A new map, fresh engine and anti-cheat measures are expected to renew the gaming feel and possibly transform Warzone into a completely different game.
