Even today, it is still not easy to get a PlayStation 5. Basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal, however, apparently got his hands on a true mountain of consoles – and used it to bring joy to children.
Who is it about? Shaquille O’Neal is one of the most famous players in basketball. He left his mark on the American NBA for years.
Besides his basketball career, “Shaq” is also active in other fields, including releasing several music albums, acting in various films, or appearing in the wrestling ring. He also invested in the esports team NRG.
He recently appeared on the podcast “The GaryVee Audio Experience” (via Apple Podcasts) and spoke with host Gary Vaynerchuk about various topics – including Christmas and the topic of gifts.
This is how the PS5 donation came about: O’Neal shares in the podcast about his parents, who always had little but taught him how important it is to give back: “They taught me how important it is to help people in need.”
Above all, he wants to ensure that children receive “good gifts” at Christmas, says O’Neal. In the past, he has repeatedly drawn attention to charity actions where he organized toys and similar items.
So it was this year as well: He talks about having contacted a friend and “ordered about 1000 Switches and 1000 PS5s. I went to Walmart and bought bicycles. And yesterday, at this little elementary school in McDonough, Georgia, the children cried, the children were happy. And that is what it’s all about.”
PS5 still hard to get
This is the PS5 situation: Getting 1,000 PS5 consoles (or even Switches, by the way) is likely to be an absolute exception. Shaquille O’Neal can probably rely on contacts and a lot of money in case to organize the charity action.
However, in normal PS5 everyday life, it still looks different.
Although the PS5 is now more than a year old, it is still hard to come by. Numerous retailers do get shipments of the console, but they are regularly sold out within a very short time.
