How does “Rise of the Skywalker” affect gaming? The latest film in the Star Wars series is fresh in theaters and has also made waves in the gaming sector.
Fortnite celebrated it with a special lightsaber event and cleverly leveraged the hype around the film. And within the franchise, synergies are being sought to carry over the buzz created by the film.
On one hand, there’s Star Wars Battlefront 2, which was expanded with the “Rise of the Skywalker” DLC. Impressively, the grand in-game trailer released alongside the film:
But what about SWTOR? Even if after the film one might feel the urge to dive deeper into the world of Star Wars, at first glance there is no direct connection to be seen. Logical, especially since the MMORPG takes place in a different time.
However, if you look closer, the film is also a topic in notable SWTOR forums. Fans of the MMORPG have been able to discover some connections between their game and the film (via reddit).
Some parts from the MMORPG are likely mentioned by name in the film and have thus become canon in the Star Wars universe: This means they truly existed in the film continuity of Star Wars.
These and other discussions reveal the mutual influence. Such a major media event for the franchise often draws along the games that take place in this universe. Everyone is aware of that. And also in SWTOR, there are currently strikingly many events.

Perhaps even one that is more satisfying than what is offered in the film (yes, that is currently quite controversial, but that’s for everyone to decide for themselves).

Although there is no Rise of the Skywalker DLC, there is still more to do than usual due to several events. After a short login to the game, we could also see that in SWTOR there are currently quite a few imperial and republic followers wandering around.
Current Events in Star Wars: The Old Republic
In the MMORPG, many events are taking place in December that are suitable for both newcomers and veterans. And they bring some rewards.
What events are currently running in SWTOR? As is also the case in many other multiplayer games and MMORPGs, the current holidays are being celebrated diligently in SWTOR.
The Life Day started on December 17 and is available for all characters level 10 and above. It brings two new quests and many cosmetics:

The event ends on January 7 at 1:00 PM our time.
Another event called “Rakghoul Resurgence on Corellia” revolves around the outbreak of a Rakghoul plague. If you want to earn reputation with T.H.O.R.N, then participate in the event.

What else is new? Star Wars: The Old Republic also celebrated its birthday on December 20. The MMORPG turned 8 years old, and some members of the development team sent messages and thanks to the players.
From December 17 to January 7, there will also be an event in SWTOR celebrating the birthday. A special NPC will sell you new decorations for your strongholds during this time:
- Statues of HK-51, Valkorian, and Malgus
- Class Ship Stronghold decorations
- Holo-statue of Senya
- And lots of fireworks
The new decorations for the strongholds are quite timely, as the new Alderaan Stronghold will soon enter its second testing phase.
What is Alderaan Stronghold? Strongholds are personal apartments in SWTOR that you can design according to your wishes. They exist, for example, on the planets Coruscant or Nar Shadda. However, a stronghold for the planet Alderaan has also been announced, the home planet of the legendary Princess Leia Organa.
The announcement of the stronghold was humorously received by the SWTOR community on Reddit. Since the planet Alderaan is blown up in one of the Star Wars films, there were comments like:
