Concord, the new multiplayer shooter from Sony, was a flop. However, even though the servers will shut down on September 6, 2024, scalpers are offering the PS5 version of the game on eBay for incredibly high prices.
What is going on with Concord? The multiplayer shooter from Firewalk Studios and Sony was not successful on PC and PlayStation 5, nor popular enough, and will only last a few days after launch. Specifically, the servers are set to shut down on September 6, 2024.
Concord is not the only game that has proven to be a failure in Sony’s service-focused strategy. Just think of the multiplayer spinoff of The Last of Us, which was buried in December 2023. Nevertheless, the PlayStation operators want to continue on this path. With Helldivers 2, they at least managed to hit a (surprise) success.
The further hopes now probably lie on the multiplayer game Fairgame$ from Haven Studio, which was first introduced in the summer of 2023. Here you can watch the trailer:
Scammers smell their chance
Why is Concord still being sold? Even though the end of Concord is near, there are currently numerous “offers” on platforms like eBay that want to charge horrendous amounts for the physical PS5 version of the game.
New and unopened for 150 euros (via eBay)? Or even two versions for just under 220 euros (via eBay)? A bargain from Britain for more than 1,200 euros (with shipping, via eBay)? On pcgamer.com, there’s even an offer for $25,000. By the way, at launch, the shooter could be secured for just under 40 euros (which was already too much for many).
Admittedly: No one will (hopefully) be dumb enough to buy Concord for $25,000 or even just 1,000+ euros. However, there are more than enough offers between 100 and 250 euros with bids or lots of watchers. Some sellers even claim to have already sold comparable offers.
In such cases, one can only hope that you do not get taken for a ride and that in the end, the scalpers end up losing, as in this case: Scalpers desperately try to sell PS5 consoles – getting stuck with them because no one wants to buy them anymore.
