We want to know which expansion of World of Warcraft you have enjoyed the most so far. Tell us why you love your addon so much!
World of Warcraft is stepping into its 9th expansion and soon will be 20 years old – the MMORPG is still actively played. However, over the years, there have been not only positives but also negatives. Long content droughts, unpopular expansions, or simply a lack of communication between developers and the community.
Therefore, we want to take a look back at all 9 current and past versions of World of Warcraft and ask in the end: Which expansion was the best?
All expansions of WoW – but which one was the best?
To give you a rough overview of what happened in each expansion, we have here a short summary:
World of Warcraft (Vanilla) marked the beginning of the MMORPG and thus the foundation of the gaming legend. 9 different classes, two large continents, and numerous quests, dungeons, and raids. It was the “raw” version of WoW.
The Burning Crusade was the first expansion and took heroes into the shattered world to defeat well-known enemies like Illidan, Kael’thas, and Vashj. There were the new races Blood Elves and Draenei, as well as heroic dungeons.
Wrath of the Lich King led to Northrend and the final battle against the Lich King. The Death Knight was added as a new class, there were new PvP battles in the open world, and different raid difficulties.
Cataclysm brought the overhaul of the old world, the first complete underwater area, and legendary raids like the Firelands, as well as a confrontation with one of the greatest enemies Azeroth ever had: Deathwing.
Mists of Pandaria took us to the mist-covered continent of Pandaria and introduced the Pandaren as a new race and the Monk class. It also featured a redesign of the talent system, scenarios, and the LFR mode. Oh, and Garrosh.
Warlords of Draenor took us to Draenor in a parallel dimension. The big feature here was the garrison with its many upgrade levels and the story surrounding the Iron Horde – featuring many well-known orc characters from the past.
Legion brought the Broken Isles, the Demon Hunter as a new hyper-mobile class, and the legendary artifact weapons with their upgrade system, as well as class campaigns and the associated order halls.
Battle for Azeroth brought the destruction of Teldrassil and Undercity, Azerite armor, island expeditions, the Heart of Azeroth, and warfronts. Additionally, there was a revamped “M+” system and many allied races.
Shadowlands explored the afterlife of Azeroth, four extensive covenants with abilities and unlockable upgrades, as well as the Tower of Torghast with its absurdly powerful abilities. There was also a reunion with known deceased legends.
Now let’s move on to the survey! Keep in mind that you only have one vote. The goal is to choose the one best expansion.
If you like, feel free to leave a comment and let us know why the respective expansion was the best for you. We look forward to your stories!
Currently, Blizzard has a good chance of delivering a real hit with the next expansion Dragonflight, as the first impressions in the Alpha are overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic.
