How did the MeinMMO list perform last year?
Last year, our anime expert Jasmin Beverungen had the pleasure of working as a fortune teller. Her six picks for an early demise in the year 2024 were:
- RIFT
- The Wagadu Chronicles
- The Quinfall
- Britaria
- Riders Republic
- Rebirth Online
Here Jasmin had a good instinct: Jasmin hit the mark with The Wagadu Chronicles. The MMORPG was supposed to be created in Berlin and Ghana and become an “Afrofantasy” MMORPG. Through Kickstarter, it raised €160,000, with regional funding from the Media Board Berlin-Brandenburg supporting with €175,000.
But there was too little interest on Steam from the start for the early access version of the game. In May 2024, before the final launch, the developers had to discontinue The Wagadu Chronicles.
Jasmin can also earn a clear point for Britaria. At least the official website (https://britaria.io/) and the official X account of the NFT MMORPG are now offline. No loss.
These titles just won’t die: All four other games are still online. What I think of RIFT I have already written. I also view The Quinfall with great skepticism – especially after the Steam beta. The ambitious MMORPG is set to start early access on January 24, 2024. After that, genre enthusiasts will know more precisely where the journey could go.
As for Rebirth Online, I now believe that the developers have simply forgotten about the game. Since 2020 in early access, zero patches, zero players, zero new reviews. It is essentially dead but has simply been left untouched.
A chuckle at the end: Jasmin’s prediction that Riders Republic would meet its end in favor of XDefiant was understandable from that perspective, but in reality, it has completely turned around: the Ubisoft shooter was supposed to rival Call of Duty, but the end is now confirmed.
