Aion 2
Genre: MMORPG | Developer: NCSoft | Platform: PC | Release: Second half of 2025 | Model: Free2Play
What kind of game is this? Aion 2 is being developed in Unreal Engine 5 and about 300 developers are expected to ensure that the project actually releases this year for PC. The MMORPG from NCSoft is expected to follow a payment model similar to Throne and Liberty (Free2Play, in-game shop, battle pass).
Aion 2 takes place 900 years before its predecessor, does not have class restrictions, and aims to target an international audience. You can expect a focus on story and PvE. PvP will also be included, but only in an optional side role.
The first trailer for Aion 2:
That’s why I believe Aion 2 could be promising: The MMORPG from NCSoft is the most reputable genre representative expected to release this year. In the previous one, I particularly liked the beautiful game world and the design of the wings.
However, since 2008, a lot has changed within the genre as well as at NCSoft. As a publisher and developer, the Korean company had to learn several lessons (such as with WildStar and Tabula Rasa, but also during the problematic development of Throne and Liberty).
Today, there’s hardly a more experienced point of contact in the world when it comes to producing an MMORPG. And how important this project is for NCSoft is shown by the fact that around 300 developers are working on the game. Aion 2 cannot afford to be a fail for the studio. My hope is that the quality of the content will reflect all of this.
Furthermore, the game’s focus on PvE content could resonate with me. The less important the PvP is, the greater the chance that the Free2Play model will not negatively impact the gaming experience. In short: I’m placing my bet on NCSoft this year. More information about the game: Aion 2 focuses on PvE and a business model similar to Throne and Liberty.
