In MMORPGs, we can often take on the roles of fanciful and exotic races. Which are your favorites?
What is this about? One of the incentives of video games is that we can take on a role that would never be possible for us in real life. We play special ops agents, heroes, treasure hunters, wizards, wolves, undead, and much more.
In MMORPGs, this occurs on one hand through the choice of our class and the story of the game, and on the other hand through the choice of the race for our character.
While MMORPGs like New World are limited to humans, there are many games that offer a wide selection of playable races.
These races often differ in their stats and abilities, but even more frequently in their statements. This contributes to more diversity in character creation. There are various ways in which these races are implemented in MMORPGs:
- Some MMORPGs adopt classic races from fairy tales or legends and adapt them to their own lore and history
- Other MMORPGs take place in space. Their races are meant to resemble aliens, like those we see in sci-fi movies or books
- Frequently, MMORPGs also use anthropomorphism. This is expressed in races that have animal characteristics, for example
- Other MMORPGs, on the other hand, try to design completely original races that have never existed before
