Rank 1 – The Elder Scrolls Online – Alone, Group – Whatever!
Release: April 4, 2014| Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S | Payment model: Buy2Play | Website of The Elder Scrolls Online
This is ESO: Another game that is well-suited for solo players is The Elder Scrolls Online. The online version of Skyrim and Co. initially began as an unconvincing mix of solo RPG and online RPG that could not excite fans of either genre.
However, the developers at Zenimax were not discouraged and completely revamped the game since its release. The secret to success: More Skyrim, less World of Warcraft! Instead of relying heavily on raids and dungeons, compact chapters were introduced that always contained a new area and a complex story.
ESO – Tamriel is growing
This is all that has been added to the game: The already impressive game area of The Elder Scrolls Online has been expanded to include amazing areas like the Imperial City, the Orc Kingdom Orsinium, the desert region of the Thieves Guild , and the Gold Coast known from Oblivion.
Each addon was independently playable regardless of actual character level – unlike the main game. Everything except dungeons, raids, and world bosses can also be done solo.
After a battle against dragons in the expansion Elsweyr, the story turned in 2021 to Deadlands. It revolved around the gates of Oblivion and brought you to the titular Deadlands. The subsequent expansion High Isle was released on June 6, 2022, focusing on the Bretons. The High Isles introduced an area to the MMORPG that had not been traversable in any other Elder Scrolls title.
On High Isle, followed a year later Necrom, with a cosmic horror setting, the new Arcanist class, and a surprising cliffhanger. This was resolved in June 2024 with the Gold Road chapter, which takes you to the Westmarshes.
However, Gold Road is said to be the last chapter. Starting from 2025, The Elder Scrolls Online is expected to switch to a seasonal model. The first details on the future of the MMORPG will be available on April 10, 2025, during a livestream from the developers. In March, there was still a dungeon DLC and an update that enhanced the visuals of the starting zones.
The Elder Scrolls Online – One Tamriel – The Great Freedom
This is why ESO is ideal for solo players: The concept of level and barrierlessness worked excellently in the addons. Hence, at the end of 2016, a big update titled “One Tamriel” was released, which virtually abolished the levels across ESO. Every hero is now always scaled to the maximum level; the actual level only matters in relation to skills and attribute bonuses.
This way, you can explore Tamriel as a solo player or group player anytime and anywhere. There are tons of regions, NPCs, quests, mini-dungeons, and lore content scattered throughout Tamriel.
Unlike the solo titles in the series, you are not limited to a single area but can travel the world freely and do what has always characterized a TES game: Explore!
Additionally, in recent years, companions have been introduced to make your solo adventures even easier. If necessary, they can even fill the empty slot in a dungeon or trial.
Conclusion: You just need to get used to ESO’s somewhat clunky combat system, then you can have a lot of fun as a solo player. And when a challenge is too big for you alone, you can quickly find helpful players. ESO is interesting for every type of player.
