What is the Secret World? The Secret World from Funcom is one of the most unusual online RPGs on the market. The game was never designed as a classic fantasy MMORPG like World of Warcraft and rather presents itself as a mystery and horror drama. Therefore, there are also no races, no classes, and no typical fantasy story.
Rather, in The Secret World, you are an agent of a secret organization such as the Templars or the Illuminati. On behalf of the Earth goddess Gaia, you fight in a shadow war hidden from normal humanity against ghosts, demons, dark cults, and undead that run amok undisturbed.
The Secret World – Extra story and atmosphere
This is the highlight: In The Secret World, everything revolves around exciting and creepy stories. If you like to quickly click away texts and skip cutscenes to finish the next quest as fast as possible, you’re completely wrong here.
Rather, you pursue complex, multi-part stories that are atmospherically told in long, voiced dialogues and are always closely intertwined with the setting and the underlying plot. Additionally, many stories from TSW reference classic mystery and horror literature like Lovecraft or X-Files.
These quests often end with complex puzzles that you would expect more in a Dan Brown novel than in an MMO. Those who are already overwhelmed by the simple sliding puzzles and puzzles of other games will probably not get far in The Secret World, and even puzzle professionals often eventually have to resort to an internet guide.
The game even has its own integrated web browser that allows you to google for clues in the game! All of this creates an incomparable atmosphere that even many pure solo games cannot achieve and is completely unique among MMOs.
