Here’s the deal: Do you know that feeling? A new MMO hits the market or you freshly enter one, and for a short time, it’s the only thing you play. For 3-4 weeks, maybe a bit longer, the new game is played as if there is no tomorrow.
You sink countless hours into the game in a short time, try out every aspect of it, and seemingly can’t get enough. Until suddenly the interest is completely gone.
And the interest stays gone. Even though you played the game intensely before, you never touch it again afterwards.
Here’s how it was for me: I’ll start right away. For me, it was AION. I first saw the MMORPG when it was presented at the Games Convention in Leipzig. I think it must have been around 2007. At that time, I was completely overwhelmed by the beautiful artworks, the versatile character creator, and the cool outfits and areas.
When the MMORPG finally released, I immediately spent half a day creating a cool Elyos character. Once that was finally done, it was time to level up. The wings and flying were the main features promoted in AION, and I really wanted them.
I was still a student at the time with tons of free time and sank many hours into the game. I played AION for about 3-4 weeks almost non-stop, leveling up, gathering gear, ores, herbs, and other stuff.
But from one day to the next, the excitement suddenly fizzled out. I don’t even know anymore why I stopped playing, but since then, I haven’t touched AION again.
