MMOs often reach their full potential only after a long time. Which games did you come to love only after two or even three attempts?
We all know it: New MMOs are regularly released, you try them out, test them more or less thoroughly, but somehow they just don’t feel right.
This can have many different reasons:
- Maybe there are still too many bugs,
- Maybe the balance isn’t optimal yet,
- Maybe there’s a lack of endgame content,
- Maybe there were just minor inconsistencies that ruined the fun,
- Or maybe it’s all of the above.
In any case, you weren’t keen to continue playing the game after its launch.
This is how MMOs can change: We know that MMOs can mature well over time. If the developers continue to work and address the criticisms, then really cool games can emerge from poor launches over time.
Then maybe you check back a year later and barely recognize the game. There’s a lot of new content, general improvements in the control and handling of the game, and more cool features.

Then the game is really fun, and you decide to stay a bit longer than originally planned. Just hand in this one quest and then it’s fine. Suddenly, hours turn into days – and all of a sudden you’re playing the MMO full-time.
So on the second attempt, it actually clicked. Which MMO was it for you? Which one would you tell your friends: “Hey, give it another try. It’s better now than before”? Did it take years for the game to offer you enough enjoyment, or just a few months? Share your thoughts in the comments!
