The Shadowbringers addon of Final Fantasy XIV has published its last major content update. Join us as we look back at the sections of the MMORPG and vote for your favorite.
Here’s the deal: With Patch 5.55, the last major update in FFXIV was released before the next addon. The story of Shadowbringers is complete, the transition to the expansion Endwalker has been established, and the final significant content chunks are playable.
We can now look together at the past chapters of FFXIV and consider how they fared in comparison. After all, the MMORPG has a history of 8 years and 4 major segments behind it:
- A Realm Reborn: The base game ARR tells the first major chapter of FFXIV. Our character, the newly appointed Warrior of Light, arrives in Eorzea and finds themselves in the midst of a war situation, as well as countless political intrigues and wicked schemes.
- Heavensward: After the events in ARR, the rocky path leads the player character north to the nation of Ishgard. For a thousand years, the Ishgardians have been embroiled in a war against the dragons, built on lies. After a difficult journey and painful losses, we finally manage to end the war.
- Stormblood: After victory in the north, the journey continues east. The nations of Ala Mhigo and Doma have suffered under the yoke of the Garlean Empire for many years. They plan a rebellion to finally be free, and the player character rushes to their aid.
- Shadowbringers: In the last addon of FFXIV, the player character even gets transported to another world. The balance of elements in the first shard world is lost and everything is flooded with light. The inhabitants suffer and are hunted by creatures born from the light. And only the Warrior of Darkness can put an end to it.

Here’s what’s next for FFXIV: This fall, the next addon for FFXIV named Endwalker will already be released. The release date is set for November 23, but pre-order customers can get early access starting on November 19.
The addon will conclude the major narrative arc around the gods Hydaelyn and Zodiark. There will be a great final battle that aims to answer many of the players’ questions. The journey will take players to new areas such as the island nation of Radz-at-Han, the ancient Sharlayan, and even to the moon.
