The free action RPG Where Winds Meet sends you with its first major expansion to three new regions. You will be able to explore the first one very soon, and all without paying a cent.
The name of the new expansion is Hexi: This will take you very soon to the first of three new areas, the “Jade Gate” (in English roughly translates to “Jade Gate”). You can catch a first glimpse of it in the announcement trailer:

Where Winds Meet sends you to the desert
The first major expansion for Where Winds Meet (in the West): The free-to-play action RPG has received many updates since its global release in November 2025, but has not had a true expansion yet. That changes on March 6, 2026, with the free DLC called “Hexi”.
The announcement trailer already shows first glimpses of all three areas. However, these will only gradually become part of the expansion.
The Jade Gate is the first of the new areas and will be accessible upon release. It is part of a huge yet quite dilapidated wall. The impressive structure is surrounded by a vast desert. In the trailer, you can see the wind sweeping sand over the dunes.
After the release, another area will open its gates every 28 days. These are:
- the pale and quite gloomy Liangzhou with its white snowfields
- Qinchuan, which is striking in the trailer with an endless sea of grass
The trailer already shows some new bosses and enemies that you can expect in these parts of the world.
What else is included in the new expansion: “Hexi” continues the story of Where Winds Meet and provides – in addition to the already mentioned areas and enemies – further innovations.
The innovations include:
- Fighting from the back of your mount
- Fresh combat styles that incorporate your environment (such as the sand beneath your feet)
- New weapon types
- huge world bosses
