Razer revealed more details about its “smart mask” at E3 2021. MeinMMO explains how long you’ll have to wait.
Razer showcased many gaming innovations at E3 2021. A major community topic had already been the “smart mask” in the lead-up. Razer has now provided further details on this.
And the most important news about Project Hazel is likely to disappoint many interested parties at first. Because Razer’s CEO, Min-Liang Tan, explained that the mask will only be available in Q4 2021 and will also be limited in supply.
When will “Project Hazel” be available? Razer stated that the mask will be available at the beginning of Q4 2021. That’s around October 2021.
However, Razer also mentioned that they expect high demand. Therefore, they will stagger the sales in several waves. The first sales wave will start in Q4, followed by additional sales waves.
How much will the Razer mask cost? Razer did not disclose the price of the mask. However, we suspect that the prices will be quite high, as the mask is expected to include RGB lighting and a microphone with a voice amplifier. A charging station is also expected to be included.
You shouldn’t assume that you will be able to buy the stylish Razer mask at supermarket prices.
Where can the mask be purchased? You can purchase “Project Hazel” exclusively through the official Razer store. Sales through other vendors are not planned.
Is the mask available in Germany? We still do not know if you can order the mask during the first wave in Germany. However, more information from Razer is likely to come soon.
Can I use the mask in Germany at all? The mask adheres to the N95 protection class. FFP2 complies with a German standard, while N95 is the American standard. In Germany, all masks with FFP2, KN95, and N95 protection classes are approved. All regulations regarding protective masks can be found directly at the German government (via bundesregierung.de).
Razer first presented “Project Hazel” at CES 2021
Razer presented a mask concept at the major electronics fair CES 2021, fitting for the Corona pandemic. It initially seemed as if the mask came straight out of a video game.
At first glance, Razer integrated a lot of crazy ideas into its concept:
- Thanks to transparent design, one can see the face of the wearer. A problem that many FFP2 masks have.
- In the dark, automatic lighting can turn on to enable facial expressions in all lighting conditions.
- There is also a voice amplifier, whose microphone picks up the user’s voice and plays it back directly. This is intended to bypass the dampening of the voice.
- It has the air filtration of a medical N95 mask. The fans can be detached and filter “at least 95%” of airborne particles.
Razer itself refers to the new product as the “smartest mask in the world.” It comes with a special charging station that charges the mask’s battery and simultaneously kills bacteria and viruses with integrated UV light.
Originally, it was only a prototype, but the viewers were so enthusiastic that Razer has now decided to make the mask a reality:
