In Anthem you can deal massive damage with combos. We explain how the system works around the skills.
With combos, players in Anthem can combine their attacks and skills. This system unleashes the full potential in combat.
Depending on your attacks and your Javelins, you can take out large numbers of enemies in a short time. Or you can hit a single enemy hard.
Primer and Detonator Skills Trigger Combos
This is how combos work in Anthem: The combination of two different attacks is a combo. This leads to additional damage and an effect that depends on the Javelin you are currently playing.
Such combos can either be triggered by your team or by yourself. The attacks can be divided into two types:
- Primer Skills: Primers apply negative status effects to the target and deal elemental damage – they are marked in the game by a “circle icon” in the skill description.
- Detonator Skills: Detonators trigger the combo effect when they hit an enemy that has previously been hit by a primer attack – they are marked in the game by an “explosion icon”
If someone in your team is constantly dealing primer attacks, you can achieve a combo with detonator attacks. These combos are one of the most effective ways to deal high damage.
What advantage do combos have? There are also skills that are neither primers nor detonators, which then deal more damage on their own. But those who use combos will ultimately deal more damage than someone who only uses regular skills.
The Combo Effects of the Javelins
Depending on which of the 4 Javelins detonates a combo, various bonus effects arise:
- the Ranger deals damage to a single target
- the Colossus deals area damage around the target
- the Storm transfers the elemental effect to nearby enemies
- the Interceptor receives a type of buff aura that depends on the elemental effect with which it attacks the target. Enemies around it receive damage and effects from the aura; you can freeze them, for example.
Which Javelin is particularly good for combos? Basically, any of the four different Javelins is suitable. However, the Storm Javelin provides a good example of the various possibilities.
This Javelin uses elemental attacks and can unleash frost, lightning, and fire attacks on enemies at will. This gives it a wide range of possible combos.
Is there a catch? Bosses or larger mobs are significantly harder to apply primers to and thereby apply negative status effects.
Combos are not so easily achieved there. Often you must first remove a shield, or players need to work together in the group to initiate a combo.
Your choice of elements can be advantageous: In general, elements in Anthem are an important factor. If you choose wisely, you can more easily take out enemies with shields and armor.
