How long will Diablo 3 actually remain alive, as Diablo 4 is now coming into focus? This is a question many players in the community are asking, and now there are answers from Blizzard.
What is going on with Diablo? Just recently, the beta of Diablo 4 ran and showed participants what the Blizzard team has in store for hack-and-slash fans. Lots of carnage, dark worlds, and familiar villains.
Meanwhile, Diablo 3 continues, receiving a new season approximately every three months. But that won’t last. An end to new content for Diablo 3 is now foreseeable. In an interview, the Blizzard team discussed the future of the franchise.
One more new season for Diablo 3, then it gets recycled
This is what Blizzard says: The streamer AnnacakeLive had the opportunity in an interview with other content creators to ask questions to Rod Fergusson (General Manager of the Diablo franchise) and Joe Shely (Game Director of Diablo 4). One of the questions was: What will happen to Diablo 3 after the release of Diablo 4?
In the answer, Blizzard explains that the current Season 28 is huge. With the great altar, through which your pets can collect items like breath of death, the developers brought powerful improvements.
- In Season 29, there should still be new content. But the changes won’t be as massive as in Season 28.
- From Season 30, the team will repeat cosmetic content and season themes from previous seasons.
- From Season 30, the team will focus on creating seasons for Diablo 4.

In the YouTube video at minute 8:57, you can hear the answer from AnnacakeLIVE:
This is how Diablo 3 is currently performing: On February 24, the current Season 28 of Diablo 3 started. For a few years, the team has been introducing a special theme each season. Sometimes double goblins, sometimes a fourth slot in Kanai’s Cube, powerful meteors, or other cool buffs. With the Altar of Rites, Blizzard created a seasonal theme in S28 that has never been seen in this size before.
By farming materials, players unlock powerful bonuses. These can include bonuses to damage and defense, but also quality-of-life content like the mentioned collecting materials by pets.
Many players would love to keep the altar in the game forever, and who knows, maybe Blizzard is considering it as well. Now it is clear that Season 29 will be the last with new content. After that, themes that you already know will be repeated.
How do you feel about the outlook for the future of Diablo 3? Have you already prepared for the imminent end of new content, or would you wish for a small team to continue working on new seasons and content for the game?
