The story of Borderlands 3 will revolve around the evil Calypso twins, and players can expect more than just a single Vault.
Many of the details had already leaked before the game’s announcement and were confirmed with the release of the trailer.
What do we know about the story? At the center of the story of Borderlands 3 are the two villains seen in the trailer: the Calypso twins, Troy and Tyreen.
The two rule over a cult called “Children of the Vault” and possess supernatural powers. Tyreen is a Siren, but Troy also seems to have Siren abilities, even though he is a man.
Fans speculate that the twins are capable of stealing the powers of other Sirens. The reason for this is a scene in the trailer where we see Lilith lying on the ground without her Siren tattoos. In contrast, the twins in the background do have glowing tattoos.
There should also be multiple Vaults in Borderlands 3, which you will need to find. You will be supported by many familiar faces.
Characters like Tiny Tina, Moxxy, and Sir Hammerlock are back in Borderlands 3.
Who are the playable characters? Typically, players in Borderlands 3 will be able to choose from four new playable characters.
- Zane is a sort of Borderlands Batman. He is a wealthy guy who operates with gadgets and tools. He can set traps and create distractions, like Zero in Borderlands 2.
- Flak is a robot who can summon various pet companions for assistance. In the trailer, we see him with a Skag, for example. Each of his pets is supposed to have its own move set.
- Moze is a soldier who controls a huge mech in combat. In the trailer, we see that other characters will be able to climb onto the mech and operate the machine gun on its back.
- Amara is the traditional Siren in the team. She can summon huge extra arms for powerful physical attacks and possesses additional Siren abilities.
Each character will be able to use more than just one active ability. Original Vault Hunters Maya, Lilith, Mordecai, Zero, and Brick also appear in the trailer but will likely not be playable.
Where does Borderlands 3 take place? The main setting of BL3 is still the planet Pandora. However, it seems that other planets will also be visitable.
In the trailer, it was mentioned that players would explore multiple “worlds.” You can see various environment types, starting with the classic wasteland of Pandora, to a futuristic metropolis.
The founder of Gearbox, Randy Pitchford, also spoke during the PAX conference about how the switch to Unreal Engine 4 has enabled new physics simulations:
There could be different physics, and the sun and moons may be positioned differently than what we are used to on Pandora.
Fans speculate that in Borderlands 3, we might visit Promethea for the first time. The weapon company Atlas discovered alien technology there for the first time.
