What can players expect from Destiny 2 in 2019? What information is already known and when will expansions be available? We look at the official information.
This is the current status of Destiny 2: With Forsaken, the first major expansion came in September 2018.
We have now entered Year 2 of Destiny 2.
The first 9 months of 2019 will be shaped by the “Annual Pass”. Its first expansion was released as “Black Armory” in December. This “Annual Pass” is supposed to provide Destiny 2 with game content until autumn 2019.
There will also be free updates for everyone. However, most new features will only be available to those who purchased the Season Pass.
We take a look at the roadmap for Destiny 2 in 2019.
This is what will happen in winter:
For January and February, we already know Bungie’s plans in detail:
- on January 8, 2019, the 4th and final forge, Niobe Lab, will open
- on January 29, the exotic quest “The Draw” will come to Destiny 2 – here, it is expected that the exotic weapon “The Last Word.” The question remains whether the weapon will be available immediately or hidden behind time gates
- on February 5, the “Crimson Days” will start, which is the Valentine’s Day event of Destiny 2
- two more exotic weapons should also appear in January and February: the sniper rifle “Izanagi’s Burden” and the fusion rifle “Jotun.”
These 2 weapons will likely still come in January: Both missing exotic weapons sound fantastic in Bungie’s description:
- The sniper rifle is supposed to compress all bullets in the magazine into a super bullet that wipes everything out
- Jotun is supposed to be a kind of “Hand Cannon” that attaches to the player’s hand and then fires a fireball that chases enemies because it “knows where they live.” It should also turn the ground into a sea of flames.
One of the weapons is likely to be available through the exotic quest that everyone is chasing after. The other could be in the 4th forge, which is still open.
And then the quest for “The Last Word” will start.
This is what happens in spring for Destiny 2:
In March, we can expect the next DLC “Joker’s Wild”.
- Power level will increase by 50 points to 700.
- The expansion is supposed to especially enhance Bungie’s favorite mode “Gambit”. Bungie promises private matches and new maps.
- Additionally, fresh items and weapons will be introduced
- There will be new quests, and an exotic quest line will also be added
- A spring event is also planned for that time
- And Xur will receive bounties. Xur is now on the sidelines, maybe the old noodle face will experience a small renaissance
This is what will happen in summer:
In summer, the expansion “Penumbra” is expected to be released. It is scheduled for June. We currently know little about this.
- However, a new raid has been promised.
- There should also be a new activity with matchmaking for 6 players
- Bungie itself says that with Penumbra it will be about exploring and discovering new secrets.
- the power level will be raised to 750
- the event “Sundering of Heroes” returns. In year 1 it was a kind of closing event with many goodies.
This is what happens in autumn:
From September, we will be completely in the dark. We will probably only learn at E3 in June 2019 (June 11-13) what path Bungie will take.
There are three possibilities:
- Will Destiny 3 already come in September 2019? Allegedly, Bungie has been working on it for a while
- or is Bungie actually planning a year 3 for Destiny 2 with more content, perhaps a 2nd Annual Pass
- or will there be a transition year in which relatively little will happen, like in 2016/2017. There, the content kitchen largely remained cold, and Bungie resorted to free updates that mostly recycled old content and the emergency expansion “Rise of Iron”
