Whether it’s One Piece, Naruto, or Dragon Ball – in the world of animes, there is something for every taste. Every mangaka has their own drawing style and designs their characters with a unique appearance. But what would it look like if characters from one anime ended up in another? In a collection thread, we at least learn how characters from One Piece would look in other anime universes.
Which mangakas participated? On Twitter, One Piece Tweets opened a collection tweet, where different drawings of characters from One Piece were published. The special thing about this is that the figures were drawn by other mangakas than Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece.
The tweet features various mangakas, some of whom congratulated One Piece on its 10th birthday back in the day. The most famous among them are Akira Toriyama, who recently passed away and was known for Dragon Ball, and Masashi Kishimoto, who many are likely familiar with through Naruto.
You can view the image series on the mentioned Twitter account. You can find the images of the other mangakas in the replies:
The mangakas of Naruto and Dragon Ball each drew Luffy with a meat club. In Akira Toriyama’s version, Luffy looks a little smaller and slimmer, while in Masashi Kishimoto’s depiction, he is so plump that his shirt looks like it might burst.
However, there are many more mangakas who have drawn Luffy and co. Among them are the following well-known artists:
- Tite Kubo (Bleach)
- Hideaki Sorachi (Gintama)
- Boichi (Dr. Stone)
- Fujiko Fujio (Doraemon)
- Yusei Matsui (Assassination Classroom)
- Takeshi Obata (Death Note)
- Kohei Horikoshi (My Hero Academia)
The latter even created a complete picture featuring not only Luffy but also Zoro, Sanji, Usopp, and Nico Robin.
With the Egghead Arc, One Piece introduces new characters and a cool opening:
What do the images look like? The characters really look like they belong in the story of their respective mangaka. Depending on the drawing style, Luffy and co. have different facial features or varying levels of detail.
The drawing by Hideaki Sorachi, the mind behind Gintama, stands out in particular. Here we see Usopp posing like in a portrait. He has distinctive facial features that stand out even more in the Gintama drawing style.
Also, Ace and Whitebeard’s prominent back muscles particularly stand out in the image by Boichi (Dr. Stone). He highlighted the muscles with individual shading, and even the clothing is shaded down to the last fold.
Most mangakas decided to depict Luffy as the subject, but there are still so many other characters in One Piece. One of them, Eiichiro Oda himself could no longer remember: In the Netflix series of One Piece, there is a character that the creator could not remember at all.
