Shortly after the largest gaming deal in history, Sony suddenly counters and acquires Bungie, the developer of Destiny 2. This is not just about the studio, but also the expertise behind it. We talk in the MeinMMO podcast about what this deal means.
This is the topic: On January 31, Sony announced that it would acquire the developer studio Bungie – for an impressive 3.2 billion euros. Bungie is mainly known for their work on Destiny 2.
The deal comes just days after the announcement that Microsoft wants to secure Activision Blizzard. We have also analyzed the Blizzard acquisition in our podcast. Many now see Sony’s purchase as a counter. However, this is only partially true.
Interestingly, Bungie had previously worked as a studio for Activision Blizzard – and before that, directly for Microsoft. There is a certain irony in the whole story.

Even though there is some mockery about the purchase from certain corners of the internet, Destiny fans are especially pleased. For them, the acquisition means that their favorite game will soon finally receive better support and more content after a long dry spell.
Next up in Destiny 2 is the expansion “The Witch Queen”. The addon will be released on February 22, 2022.
