During the presentation of Beyond Good & Evil 2 at E3 2018, Hollywood star Joseph Gordon-Levitt appeared. We reveal what he has to do with the game!
For many fans, a fresh trailer for Beyond Good & Evil 2 was one of the highlights of this year’s E3. Especially the new trailer for BGE2 made quite an impression. The impression was only enhanced when Hollywood star Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception, Looper) took the stage and promoted the game. But what does the star actually have to do with Beyond Good & Evil 2?
Gordon-Levitt wants your content: One of the major revelations was that Beyond Good & Evil 2 wants to rely heavily on fan content. On the platform Hitrecord, talented fans can submit artworks that may then be included in the game if they are liked – such as graffiti on walls or as badges from various pirate crews. The platform Hitrecord was founded by Gordon-Levitt, who explained in the press conference that a “world with much more depth” can be created when many are involved.
Fans will be paid fairly: On Twitter, there were repeated calls that the developers merely want to grab “good artworks” cheaply, to not have to create any themselves. Furthermore, they wanted to “exploit the hype of the community to keep their own production costs low.” Gordon-Levitt denied this and explained that Hitrecord pays all people whose works are subsequently implemented in the finished game. Artists are always “paid fairly” and they did not mention it at the press conference because there was apparently a last-minute change to the script to fit the schedule.
Hitrecord has already paid out over 3 million USD to artists participating in various projects since 2010.
Maybe this is also an opportunity for you to make some of your artworks into money?
